Educating first-contact health care providers in the care of potential terrorism victims is challenging because of the wide variety of potential
presenting symptoms. A civilian, symptom-based algorithmic approach has been developed to aid health care providers in decision-making during the
early encounter with these patients. We describe the use of a screen-based bioterrorism simulator as a source of hypothetical patients to test
and refine these algorithms. We discuss future methods of potential testing, including paper case scenarios, computer modeling, and testing
during field drills.
